JUNETEENTH........and why it matters

While it is of critical importance for Americans to learn the true story of this day in our history, along with the subsequent Jim Crow laws that all but negated much of Lincoln's emancipation proclamation, I wonder if this day doesn't matter to all of us in a different way.

Juneteenth is perhaps an apt metaphor for all the ways in which we are liberated but may not know it yet.   See if any of these apply even to you.   See if this most important day for African Americans can’t connect to us all in some way or another.  Maybe there is good news we don't know yet that could, if it reached us, bring new freedom. Perhaps YOU are:

Talented but may not know it yet.

Intelligent but may not know it yet.

Admired but may not know it yet.

Blessed but may not know it yet.

Needed but may not know it yet.

Appreciated but may not know it yet.

Safe (saved) but may not know it yet.

Protected but may not know it yet.

Prepared but may not know it yet.

Liked but may not know it yet.

Loved but may not know it yet.

Awesome but may not know it yet.

Maybe we all live in a world and in a time better than the one we know.  Maybe we're all waiting for some good news that has yet to reach us.    And if it reached us today, how would tomorrow be different?

How about you?

What would such a day, and such good news, free you from?  How would you think of yourself differently?   How would you talk differently to others?   How would you act differently?    How would you feel differently?

In a sense, our best liberation is yet to come.  What if yours came TODAY?
